Silent Fear
|
Silent Fear is Katherine's fifth book and she says she had great fun coming up with ways to put more pressure on the characters. 'Trouble is the key - if the characters are having an easy time, the reader can feel bored. It's important to pile problem onto problem, add conflict wherever you can, make everything worse as the story progresses. The characters need to suffer for the book to feel tense and gripping.' Silent Fear was published in Australia in February 2012. It made the bestseller list soon after and was selected as the February read for the national Get Reading! programme. It was also released an an ebook in the US and UK. |
Reviews.
"a cracking novel" Sun-Herald
"fascinating" Courier-Mail
"a tightly constructed, fast paced thriller" Fair Dinkum Crime
"One of the things that Howell does particularly well is to balance the personal and the professional, the paramedic and the cop lines ... the only real downside to SILENT FEAR is that you're going to have to be prepared before you start. It's flagged as "A Book You Can't Put Down", and they mean that. Emphatically" AustCrime
"Exciting, authentic and a great read. I enjoyed Silent Fear and read it in one sitting, unwilling to put it down. Silent Fear is a page turner" Book'd Out
"Howell can juggle a two-heroine plot with ease" Sydney Morning Herald
"Katherine's writing draws you in; a realistic sense of place and natural dialogue, it's so easy to care about a character ... Silent Fear is the consummate blend of police procedural and paramedic detail, mystery and suspense. It's a labyrinth of twists, turns and red herrings, tension builds 'til it reaches fever-pitch."
